The Freedom Trail – Chemin de la Liberté:
The Chemin de la Liberté Freedom Trail is a challenging yet breathtaking path rich in historical significance. Over four days, you’ll trace the escape route used by thousands fleeing Nazi-occupied France during World War II. More than 33,000 French citizens alone escaped across the Pyrenees into Spain or Andorra. This journey honors the resilience and courage of those who braved the crossing. Recognized as one of the most difficult escape routes in the Pyrenees, the trail is commemorated by the local community, which preserves the stories of the passeurs and provides insight into how the escape lines operated and adapted throughout the war.
