Snowdon for Sunrise (Yr Wyddfa)
Take on a truly unforgettable adventure as we hike through the darkness to reach the summit of Snowdon (Yr Wyddfa) – the highest mountain in Wales – just in time to witness a breathtaking sunrise from 1,085 metres above sea level.
This is not just a walk – it’s a challenge. You’ll climb under starlit skies, navigate rugged mountain paths by headtorch, and push your body in the early hours of the morning to reach the summit before the sun rises. Our experienced mountain leaders will guide you every step of the way, creating a supportive group atmosphere and ensuring everyone stays safe, motivated, and on track for the summit.
Whether you’re here for the adventure, the views, the personal challenge, or to raise money for a cause close to your heart, Snowdon for Sunrise is a magical, soul-stirring experience you’ll never forget.

How difficult is Snowdon for Sunrise?
Snowdon for Sunrise is considered a moderate mountain challenge. While no technical climbing is required, participants should have a reasonable level of fitness and be comfortable walking uphill for several hours in the dark. Our experienced guides will support you throughout the event.
Which route do we use?
We typically use the Rhyd Ddu Path, one of Snowdon’s quieter and more scenic routes. The exact route may be adjusted if required due to weather or mountain conditions.
Do I need any previous mountain experience?
No. Many of our participants are taking on their first mountain challenge. As long as you have a suitable level of fitness and come prepared with the correct equipment, you’ll be very welcome.
How long does the walk take?
We allow approximately 3 hours to reach the summit in time for sunrise. After spending time enjoying the views and taking photographs, the descent normally takes around 2.5 hours. The total event duration is approximately 6 hours.
What if I can’t keep up with the group?
Don’t worry. We regularly guide mixed-ability groups and our team will manage the pace accordingly. We will make regular stops and ensure nobody is left behind. We employ a team of mountain leaders who will be able to split the groups if needed so that you won’t ever be walking alone.
What equipment do I need?
A full kit list will be provided upon booking. Essential items include sturdy walking boots, waterproof clothing, warm layers, a headtorch and sufficient food and water for the challenge.
Do I need a headtorch?
Yes. The majority of the ascent takes place in darkness, so a headtorch is mandatory. We also recommend bringing spare batteries or a backup light source. Don’t have a head torch? You can hire one from us when booking.
What happens if the weather is bad?
Mountain weather can change quickly and our events take place in most conditions. The experience can often be even more memorable in challenging weather. If conditions become unsafe, our guides may alter the route or, in very rare circumstances, postpone the event.
Can I bring my dog?
Well-behaved dogs are welcome on many of our events, as many of our events cross through farm land all dogs must be kept on a lead throughout the event. Please contact us before booking so we can confirm whether dogs are permitted on your chosen date.
Is there an age restriction?
Participants under 18 must be accompanied by a responsible parent or guardian. We recommend contacting us before booking younger participants so we can discuss the challenge and suitability.
What should I bring to eat and drink?
You should bring enough food and water to sustain yourself throughout the challenge. We recommend a mixture of snacks, energy foods and at least 1.5–2 litres of water. Nutritional and hydration advice is included within your information pack.
Is parking available?
Yes. Full parking information, meeting locations and arrival instructions will be provided within your event information pack before the challenge.
Will I receive route maps or GPX files?
We provide route guidance as part of your event information. GPX files are only provided after the event upon request.
Are there toilets available?
There are public toilets available near the start and end point. We recommend using these before the event briefing as there are no toilet facilities on the mountain.
What is included in the price?
Your place includes professional mountain leadership, pre-event support, a comprehensive information pack, training guidance, kit advice, nutritional and hydration guidance, route information and ongoing support from our team before the event.
Can I fundraise for charity?
Absolutely. Many of our participants choose to support a charity while taking on the challenge. You’re welcome to fundraise for any cause close to your heart.
What if I need to cancel?
Our cancellation policy can be found within our Terms & Conditions. If you are unable to attend, please contact us as soon as possible and we will discuss the options available.
Will i see a sunrise?
While the team plans the event to reach the summit before sunrise, mountain weather is unpredictable and clouds can sometimes obscure the view.

Dan and Elite Adventures were absolutely fantastic guides for our National Three Peaks Challenge last weekend. Knowledgeable, patient, thoughtful - they inspired us to complete a mountain conquering challenge that we never thought possible. I would not hesitate to recommend them for any and all expeditions: solo, small or larger groups. For expeditions, pick Elite Adventures!Posted on Sharon Warwick23/07/2025Trustindex verifies that the original source of the review is Google. Had a great day with Dan leading us via the Corridor Route, to submit Scafell Pike. Very inclusive and encouraging leadership and helped me confidently manage some scrambling sections. Would highly recommend and I will look to book onto more of Dans events in the future.Posted on Louise Murphy21/07/2025Trustindex verifies that the original source of the review is Google. Would highly recommend using Elite in the future. Thanks so much Dan for a great experience.Posted on Jacob Goodwin21/07/2025Trustindex verifies that the original source of the review is Google. Dan from Elite Adventures and his partner Amy were brilliant throughout. Reasonably priced and an amazingly scenic and well-planned route. They were both very kind and thoughtful throughout, making us all feel like a group in it together despite all our varying levels of fitness and motivation as we ascended and descended Snowdon (I am extremely unfit 😅). Dan and Amy were also extremely personable, down-to-earth, and had us howling the whole way up and down with lots of weird and wonderful conversations. Highly recommend for your next adventure! 😊Posted on Charlie Bason21/07/2025Trustindex verifies that the original source of the review is Google. Elite Adventures were absolutely the best! From start to finish, the experience was incredible — full of laughs, challenges, and unforgettable memories, all while raising money for a great cause. Huge shoutout to our mountain leader, Dan — he was fantastic! Funny, calm, and with the patience of a saint. His guidance made the whole adventure feel safe, smooth, and seriously fun. Couldn’t have asked for a better team or a better leader. Highly recommend!Posted on Harry Rees15/07/2025Trustindex verifies that the original source of the review is Google. Thank you Dan, for organizing the national three peaks challenge this past weekend. Thank you for guiding us and encouraging us up and down the three mountains in 3 different countries, in 3 different weathers! We are gutted the weather stopped us getting to the summits of the last two but you helped us feel very proud of what we did achieve. It was more than just a physical challenge: it was a mental challenge and a full all round experience with all the like minded people we met too! … The best piece of advice I’ve ever been given and a stand out moment in the 24hr challenge… scooping up water from the waterfall half way up Ben Nevis in my cap (I’ll never forget!) … will take a little time to recover from this weekend but hope to join another of your elite adventures sometime in the future! Thank you again from Katie, Kerry and most importantly Dexter who we did this for and have managed to raise a fantastic amount of money for Duchenne UK 💪🏻💙Posted on Mitchell Homewood23/06/2025Trustindex verifies that the original source of the review is Google.
