Wow, I’m sure i’m not the only one thinking it….. How fast has this year gone?

I don’t know about you but we are certainly not sick of turkey yet, but we are amazed at how many culinary masterpieces have been created using the Christmas day left overs. From Turkey curries and the humble turkey sandwich to the turkey pot pie soups, the imagination of some of these ‘chefs’ is pure wizardry.

After a recent conversation with friends on what to do for new years, or rather, where to go. It occurred to us that every year most people take part in dry January or publicly declare that they will give up drinking for good or drink less this year. But… and it is a big but ( excuse the pun ) they head out on new years eve to the local pub or for a treat night with friends. Now you maybe sat there thinking ‘so whats your point?’ My point is this. We make these so called resolutions but the first day of the new us, we wake up either ‘still drunk’ or with the most epic of hangover’s.

Try something different!

Last year we decided to treat ourselves to a meal from Marks & Spencer two can dine (we’re posh don’t you know) on new years eve. We even enjoyed a glass of fizz before taking ourselves to bed for a reasonably early night. The following morning ( new years day ) we rose early and drove to The Yorkshire Dales, not a car on the road….well it was 5 am when we left. But still, the roads were clear as everyone else was laying in bed nursing a hangover or some had most likely only just arrived home. We arrived in Horton-in-Ribblesdale which some of you may know from the start and finish of the epic Yorkshire Three Peaks Challenge, and went on a stunning circular walk through the hills. The sky was clear and with the sun shining it made for an awesome walk. Now time for the best tip of all…….. You will most likely by now realise that a hotel for new years eve into new years day is very much doubled if not tripled in price. Have you seen the prices for the 1st and 2nd of January? most hotels are completely empty on these dates. Through a quick search online we managed to find an overnight stay in a stunning manor , with Dinner, a bottle of wine, breakfast, use of the gym and spa facilities and late check out for £50…. for two people. Pretty much the price of entrance into most places for new years eve right?

Maybe we struck lucky or maybe this is one of those hidden gems we have managed to stumble across, who knows but we know what we will be doing next year 😉

Whatever your plans are for new year. Have a great one and most importantly of all stay safe.

For now….
