The topic of conversation from the team and customers over this past week has been about their New Years resolutions and if they have already let them slip or made “adjustments” or are still standing strong. Instead of the ever popular new years resolution, try this.

It’s nothing new but often overlooked?

Setting a goal will drastically improve your chance of reaching a desired outcome.

It sounds really obvious.

However, it might surprise you to hear that many people go to the gym or partake in fitness activities with no real goal in mind, without any real objective ?

Fitness goals are perhaps the best form of maintaining motivation for exercise.

Short term goals give you a sense of an immediate target to focus on while long term goals keep your overall objective in mind, striving for higher achievements.

Basically if you have set your ‘New years resolution’ as “go to the gym” during January you will sign up and go to the gym once or twice. Goal is in effect achieved. Right? As you have been to the gym, the motivation wears off at the first hurdle as you have already achieved your new years resolution of going to the gym.

Set yourself a goal.

Something bigger.

“I’m going to lose and maintain X inches off my waist line”

“I’m going to complete the Yorkshire Three Peaks in under 12 hours”

What ever your big goal may be.

This larger goal will also contain multiple short term goals, such as –

How are YOU going to lose inches or complete a Y3P?

– you’re going to go to the gym regularly

– you’re going to change your diet

– you’re going to get out walking in between gym days

– you’re going to have to say no to drinking when everyone else is on the piss

Sounds like alot of peoples new years resolutions…. doesnt it?

1. Set a long term goal (make sure its realistic)

2. Work out the short term goals to achieve this

3. Get to work on smashing it ?

Not sure on what exactly your goal should be?
